Test server, client and bidirectional streams

Select a streaming method and press Run. Server streams print each message as it arrives. For client and bidirectional streams the first Run opens the stream, each Run after that sends the editor's JSON as the next message, and End (⇧⌘E) half-closes your side. ⌘. cancels any call.

Updated

The four call types

ArrowTypeWhat Run does
→UnarySends one request and shows one response
↠Server streamSends one request; responses arrive in the transcript
⤚Client streamOpens the stream; each further Run sends a message; End half-closes
⇄BidirectionalOpens the stream; each further Run sends a message while responses arrive

Reading the transcript

  • ↑ marks a message you sent, ↓ one you received and ◇ the final status.
  • The left column is the time since the previous event, so a slow message stands out.
  • The status line reports messages sent and received, the gRPC status code and the total time.

Deadlines and cancelling

Set the call deadline for the workspace in Settings. ⌘. cancels a running call at any time, and the transcript ends with a cancelled status line.
